DISSOLVING DERMAL FILLER

Dermal filler is becoming more popular, especially lip filler. It is so important to do your research and have confidence that your practitioner knows exactly what they are doing & how to act if a complication should arise.

  • Filler is not permanent, it can be dissolved by injecting Hyaluronidase.

  • Hyaluronidase is a specific enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid (found in filler) by breaking the bonds that hold it together.

  • It gets to work immediately but full results will take 2 weeks to show. At this point you can 're-fill' if you choose to.

  • Hyaluronidase will dissolve your natural hyaluronic acid along with the filler. We naturally produce hyaluronic acid every 36 hours, therefore within a week your natural levels will be back to normal.

  • Does it dissolve the collagen? No. The enzyme is specific to dissolving hyaluronic acid and encouraging the body to absorb the molecules which is something our bodies do naturally. Whereas collagen does not dissolve and our bodies do not absorb it. As we age, collagen production slows down, producing less, thus losing volume.

  • A patch test will be performed first, by intradermally injecting a small amount of hyaluronidase in one area of the inner-forearm & saline in another. If a reaction occurs to the hyaluronidase then we would 'flush' the filler out with saline.

  • ELECTIVE - When a client chooses to dissolve their filler because they do not like it or have been having filler a long time, leading to lumps and migration.

  • EMERGENCY- When a complication arises during/after treatment and the filler needs to be removed for the safety of of the client.
